Hello! My name is Darian, and I am new to Oslo and am originally from the USA. Prior to moving to Norway with my husband, I was working as a teacher’s assistant at a daycare center, as well as working privately with a family of two young boys. I also have experience working as a behavioral health therapist for children with learning and behavioral disabilities.
A little about my style— I believe in fostering and nurturing independence by instilling confidence in the children and empowering them through knowledge. I believe in learning through play and identifying opportunities to teach children in a way that feels organic. I am passionate about outdoor exploration, literature and art, sports, and other expressive activities, as well as creating an environment for the children to express themselves and nurture their passions. I believe in empowering children by providing appropriate options for them to choose from, allowing them to begin making their own decisions.
My experience with younger children, some not yet verbal, has taught me to identify the child’s needs through behavior and body language. I use this intuition to provide corresponding activities that allow them to express themselves in the ways that they need, and am able to change and adapt activities as the child’s needs change throughout the day.
Finally, in a world that is so closely entwined with technology, I try to encourage children to exercise their imaginations and explore the great outdoors!
